@PhelpsieSarah @EatMyHalo Growing up my heroes were Sarah-Jane Smith, Princess Leia and my mum who brought us up single-handed. As a kid I thought this women-battling-evil-men shite would get sorted out by the time I was an adult. I was so wrong.

@typejunky @stevesmith1944 I say my prayers and leave my stones at war memorials as I wander around. I think Uncle Fred who didn‰Ûªt come back right from the trenches. The more people shout about poppies, the more the constant silent remembering becomes my way.

@EustonDoYouCopy @66000mph @andyetthebooks @Actinane @HEXCELERATOR @duncanbloor @bluestockinged Le Fanu gets the bum-rush in all the beaming at Victorian horror, but he has chops. He pushes more ideas onto a page, does more with them than many modern ‰Û÷horror masters‰Ûª.

@skippygranola There are times to pull back and do something else, because none of this is going to away soon. You have some wicked skill sets, maybe donate them/some time to people who could benefit from them and you.

@skippygranola Also, trust me, as a slightly older idiot, this stuff waxes and wanes. I lived through Reagan and Thatcher and the worst of the eighties. For all the cultural and civil degradation of these hellish winters, there are also springs.

@EustonDoYouCopy @66000mph @andyetthebooks @Actinane @HEXCELERATOR @duncanbloor @bluestockinged He is worth reading more. There‰Ûªs nuance in his work, emotional depth and resonance across time. He is not just an atmosphere or plot pony.

@skippygranola No, what it is is more interconnected. You could insulate yourself much more easily back then (don‰Ûªt listen to certain statins, don‰Ûªt drink in certain pubs, don‰Ûªt pick up certain papers).
