@peck_neal As for contemporary, try telling that to my grandfathers, who fought in their eyes not against Germans, but fascists. I come from a family that has had no track with fascists whether in Spain or Abyssinia or England for more than 80 years. It is traditional for us to oppose them.

@peck_neal I don‰Ûªt mind Gene, but telling me having an issue with fascists is contemporary seems at variance with history and the fact that all fiction, even historical and fantasy, deals with the now of the writer and readership. If that stuff breaks the spell, can‰Ûªt see why you‰Ûªd stay.
