@Offramp_tavanip @mesureur357 @psychcomm @Times_Chess @HowardStaunton Well we all know that the combination of opposing faces should be seven, so it is clearly a code rather than mistake.

Whether it is Weychester with its Prince Bishops or Coreham with its Sherrifs, Hookland is a county that suffers from feudal overhang, its stone buildings casting a shadow history of power and popular suppression. – #CLNolan

Anyone along the coast of Hookland would know its meaning, even if they did not know the Spitstone ritual. ‰ÛÒ Hookland artist Katherine Gidding on her 1938 picture The Fathom Bride Boat https://t.co/1QneiQUTQk

@MariaStrutz I think for me it, part of the power in Gidding’s picture, is the that however calm and beautiful she makes our gazes onto the waves, the terror of the King-Under-the-Sea is still present. Knowing the horror of the Fathom Brides adds to it greatly.

@MariaStrutz There’s nuance and irony – the boat is fragile and vulnerable, just as the girls it carries – and a refusal to allow beautiful to mean safe that I like about it.
