@ChrisJosiffe There was a lot of ‘heavy manners’ policing thrown at them, but it was not part of a national government response to clamp down on counter-culture as we saw under Thatcherism, but rather a localised response to friction and a perceived problem.

@ChrisJosiffe If we regard all police as agents of the diffuse state, then we must count the violent policing that happened in the county as state sanctioned in the widest sense, though they occurred I would argue, from local decisions and prejudices that the state felt it could support.
