@JoshuaUnruh @gftomatoes @courtcan @alphaknight @KnivesandFire Also, nothing in Hookland is made up, just remembered differently. So, there are actual traditions of grey mares/bone horses for winter solstice and white horses/bone horses for summer solstice. Everyone tends to focus on the Mari Lwyd, but it’s far from the only example. https://t.co/ODEcPmNikw

@JoshuaUnruh @gftomatoes @courtcan @alphaknight @KnivesandFire I take it as a compliment. Hookland is resource for others, a useful wall to bounce off of and an easily adaptable mythic landscape. Whether as horror prompt, hardcore electro, classical suite or mention in Sandman Slim, it’s all there to be used.

@brotherurth @SoryahhTale Cunning man is specific to cunning traditions and does not convey the age element as crone does. Nor does mage as Dr. Dee et al were mages well before middle age.

@brotherurth @SoryahhTale Wizard does not work because it has no link to the archaic wizen (shrivel). The problem may highlight the structural fertility prejudice against women as male magic workers were not called old rams in the way older women magicians were called old ewes – which is what a crone was.
