@LadyLiminal1 @Skionar @beanie_annie @cultauthor The best account of Williams leaving Burton high and dry is from his personal letters, though the Diary gives a good idea of how useless he was as an understudy.

@caito1971 @KJSoar It is worth going back to. The poverty and one-parentness in a time when that was a form of social exclusion are well-captured and echoed with me both as a child and adult. Although Sleigh is often lumped in with lumpen authors such as Blyton, she has a light touch.

@caito1971 @KJSoar While it is all the typical tropes of childhood – talking cats, broomsticks, a kingdom not perceived by adults – her depictions of town, new town, country and even class have an edge to them you’d never find in most of her contemporaries.

@JonPountney1 My love for Kneale is well-known. The only case would be an aping of his script for Halloween III, which even before De Laurentiis butchering, was a flawed mess. https://t.co/eZans1S7XU

@JonPountney1 It is a good B-movie, but one of his weakest scripts – chips made from Stonehenge, android replacements and other malarkey, yet none of his character nuance, none of his fierce internal logic. I wish they’d gone with his Creature of the Black Lagoon re-boot instead.

For it’s August 6th and the Faery Queen said to have a home under Silver Pool rises from her deep throne. Whether it is worth attempting to glimpse her given that her direct gaze is said to wither both body and soul, bringing death before Midwinter, is up to you. – #CLNolan
