Come Christmas, shops sell Frost Witch and Witch Pedlar ornaments. The best of them avoid broom and pointed hat shorthand, but these are hollow poppets, mawkish malakins. Neither ward, nor summoning, these tokens have none of our witchery to them. #EmilyBanting #WitchWednesday

@rix_scaedu A malakin is a dialect word for a doll or poppet used in magic. Despite what some may say, a malakin is not confined to malign magics and is often found tied to a tree near a holy well et al for purposes of healng.

We all hold within us landscapes of terror. Places the mind refuses to go accept in unbidden dream. For some it’s dark alley fashioned on Weychester wynds, others a wood trying to snare the soul. For me, it’s the crumbling cliffs of Dedwick and its sea-swallowed bells. – #CLNolan

@IntoaHare The only nuclear power station in Hookland is on the coast near Dedwick. In retrospect, calling a nuclear facility Dewick seems like a horrible branding mistake.

Some say there are certain types of wood that remembers what they were before they became pulpit or pew, chair or table. Wood that remembers being guardian tree or noose doom. Wood that remembers its deep roots, the joy of rain. You don’t make a fire with them. – Tom Rudd #VOH

@BaitTheLines @IMcMillan @johnguzlowski @PeterThabitjone @writetoempower We live in a constant flood of words, but there are times when the rush of them slows and poem is either swirled together in our mind by the currents or brought up from the mud of memory. I love those times.

@alexgordon36 Thank you. The loveliness of the strange is one of the things Hookland always tries to be.
