There are a lot of occult pisspuffins who refuse to frame the boneyard as anything other than a dark arena for their necromancy. Every since I was a kid I have found it a place of beauty. The perfect spot for dollÛªs picnic and friendly natter with the dead. – Kim Redmayne https://t.co/rCyVKg4XIs

The Roman mosaics at the Talting Hill Villa near Redway, have aroused interest since their unearthing in 1824. Commonly titled ‘the Monster Mazes’, all three feature a labyrinth enclosing a fabulous creature – a merman, a fire-breathing giant and an owl-man – possibly a Strix.

That set of villages known collectively as the Bleaks – Bleak Stephen, Bleak Andrew, Bleak Anne and Worthy Bleak – seem an act of nominative determinism. They are shunned by outsiders, seen as sour soil. Even the council rural bus service is determined to avoid them. – #MattAdams

In 1609, Sir Edward Penton described Hookland as Û÷a dark county in an dark corner of the land, much walked in subversion and disobedienceÛª. I hope all Hooklanders since then have played our part in keeping the county true to his description. – #CLNolan, BBC radio talk, 1933

WeychesterÛªs Malkin Alley was renowned for whoring from the Late Mediaeval Period. The fact that itÛªs also one of the most haunted wynds in the city may be coincidental – though few psychical researchers seem to think so. Then again, they are a salacious bunch. – C. Josiffe, 1938
