The abbey ruins of St. John the Writer at Long Wittering have become pilgrimage destination for authors intent on seeking inspiration intercession. Others come wanting glimpses of tomorrow. The place is littered with offering of pages, previously tossed coins and sherry bottles.

Important objects have a history of disappearing from the Hookland Archaeological Trust. Take that bone and bronze Saxon lur they speculated was used for calling the spirits of the dead. British Museum made a big bloody fuss when that went missing in the system. – #DICallaghan

@swaledalebirds_ It all depends on who you ask and which tradition they follow. Some say the Grey Mare of Winter and the White Horse of Summer suggest an inescapable binary male female duality, but frankly, there are almost as many who reckon that both bone horses could female.
