@keirburrows @SwampyWytch Folklore is a living thing, constantly changing its jacket and many faiths are the same, but that process doesn‰Ûªt set out to intentionally erase history and it‰Ûªs horrors. Erasing vile acts of homophobia et al denies the opportunity to learn from the past and evolve beyond it.

@keirburrows @SwampyWytch I would also argue that is a failure in storytelling that if you want to have a pantheon free of damaged and damaging characters. The gods function at some level as a mirror for the collective failures in humanity.

@keirburrows @SwampyWytch I would further argue, that modern folklore and pantheons are called and written into existence constantly and its a poor writer that just wants to rewrite the classics rather than building on their knowledge of them to assist in making captivating new mythologies.

@keirburrows @SwampyWytch Adjusting your god erases his crimes. (Zeus with the rape is not Zeus, does not give an opportunity to study the cultural entrenchment of rape as an act within the worshippers et al). If you need clean gods, overthrow them as the Olympians themselves did. Invent new deities.

@keirburrows @SwampyWytch Thor and the other Asgardians of the Marvel Universe – itself now a modern pantheon – are the dullest of its gods. Build beyond rather than rewrite is a better strategy.
