There was once a class of beggar on the streets of Repton known as Dust Mums. Suggestion and story had so long circled them that most believed them to have some oracular power. Appeased with coins, they often gave thanks with prophecy.

@AGildedEye @Barb_Drummond There’s a really good paper findable on the Net about Anglo-Saxon directional naming which explains many of these issues, but I do realise few have a day to spare to read it.
